Released in Japan today is the Nintendo-licensed Hori Flex switch and joystick interface. It connects through a wire to a Switch or PC. Hori specializes in a plethora of controller types for all styles of gaming, from programmable keypads and mice compatible for the PS4 to arcade sticks to recreations of the classic GameCube controllers for the Switch. Its Horipad controllers, which mimic the classic controller design somewhat similar to an Xbox One controller, are some of its most popular products, offering Switch users a much more comfortable handheld experience.

The Split Pad Pro controllers from Hori are another take on the classic controller feel for the Switch console, but as its name suggests, it replaces the Joy-Cons by basically splitting a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller in two and attaching them to the sides of the screen. Players were happy with the initial release of the Split Pad Pro controllers, saying that it offers ergonomic relief on the go where the Joy-Cons ultimately failed and can be somewhat uncomfortable to hold. It released back in 2019 and came in a Daemon X Machinathemed design. Now, after some reviewers have said it's the best Switch accessory they've purchased, Hori has unveiled new colors for the Switch Split Pad Pro.
The new controllers from Hori will come in black (with red accents, similar to the Daemon X Machina edition), midnight blue, and volcanic red. They attach to the Switch console for handheld control and make it exceptionally bulkier, though it does still fit inside the Switch Dock. But the D-pads and buttons are also enlarged from the original Joy-Cons, intended for comfort and accuracy 'even during marathon gaming sessions,' the product description reads. It also features rear buttons on both the left and right halves that are assignable to optimize gameplay.
Similar to the original Daemon X Machina edition, these three new colors of the Split Pad Pro will all be priced at $49.99 and will be released September 7, 2020, with pre-orders available via Amazon. Switch owners might be pleased to know that many users of the original Split Pad Pro did not experience the classic Joy-Con drift that Nintendo has yet to fully fix. Some users have had to replace their Joy-Cons several times since the console's release, but Hori's Split Pad Pro controllers seem to eliminate the cumbersome drift that many players experience.

The more people who can play and enjoy video games the better. Accessibility in gaming has become more and more of a talking point in the industry, which is certainly a good thing. Regardless of hearing, sight, or physical disability, video games are for all. Hori, a video game accessory company, has stepped up and created an accessibility controller for this very reason for the Nintendo Switch.
The Japanese manufacturing company introduced the Nintendo licensed Hori Flex controller for the Switch. The joystick interface and massive re-mapping options allow for players to personalize the controller to however they'd like, and it's also useable on Windows.

The general premise is very similar to the Xbox Adaptive Controller that was revealed a couple of years ago. The Hori controller looks to tackle the same challenge of an accessibility controller with its own take. The controller allows remapping, uses a joystick and pads, button options, and even a clamp and mount for better positioning.
Nintendo gamers have already shown appreciation for the Xbox controller, as a dad recently modified the Adaptive Controller so that his child could enjoy Breath of the Wild on the Switch. Of course, the Xbox controller isn't designed to be used on the Nintendo device, but now this Hori controller is specifically designed for Switch players.
With people modding the Xbox controller for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and other Nintendo games, the Hori Flex may get good usage among fans and gamers. At the moment, it is only available in Japan for the equivalent of about $230. If the controller finds success in Japan, and or if there is a demand for the accessory elsewhere, Hori may soon release the product in other regions.
There are plenty of controller options for the Nintendo Switch. Third-party companies have stepped up and provided alternative Joy-Cons, Pro Controllers, mounts, and more. And of course, Nintendo provides many options as well. Hori's officially Nintendo licensed Flex is a great addition to the list. Even though there are a plethora of Switch accessory options that have been made available so far, none of them do what the Flex does.
